Alexander Suleiman

A protégé of the late Eleonore Schoenfeld, Alexander Suleiman has been praised by the press as "a soloist who fascinates musicians and audience alike with unique and powerful interpretations that at first shock by their newness and then delight as their logic reveals new realms of meaning."

Suleiman has been awarded several first prizes in various competitions in both the piano and cello categories. After his first prize in the International Johannes Brahms Competition in Austria, he was consequently invited to solo with numerous orchestras and to perform at festivals such as the Aspen Music Festival, the Prague Mozart Academy, the Oleg Kagan Music Festival, the Klagenfurt Musikfest, the International Musikfest Dietzenbach in Germany, and the Suomussalmi and Kuhmo Chamber Music Festivals in Finland.

Suleiman's most recent appearances include performances in Europe, Asia, South America and the United States with the Novosibirsk Symphony Orchestra, the World Chamber Orchestra, the Palestine Symphony, the Georgian Chamber Orchestra and the Caucasian Chamber Orchestra. He has premiered many works, several of which are dedicated to him.

His technical prowess and his interest in contemporary music have made him a cellist in great demand by the leading composers of our time. After his performance of Franz Hummel's cello concerto, the composer stated "to speak of Suleiman's repertoire borders on the absurd, because he learns even the most difficult piece in no time." Suleiman has premiered and recorded many compositions for radio and television and for labels such as jpc, mediaHyperium and Guild Music.
